About the CPD 活動簡述: 

 

This site visit will focus on the significance of post-war architecture in Hong Kong, exploring how the CUHK campus embodies functional design and local identity during a transformative era. The site visit will highlight the architectural language of the college buildings, including the Chung Chi College Chapel, Elisabeth Luce Moore Library and Chung Chi Hall Student Centre, their relationship to the surrounding landscape, and the broader social context in which they were conceived.

About the Speaker 主講人介紹:

 

Mr. Alex YUEN

 

Alex Yuen is a UK registered architect known for chronicling Hong Kong’s postwar modernism. A graduate of the University of Hong Kong and Architectural Association in London, he is the co- author of Filing, Archives & Architectural Research and The Lost Modern: 25 Modernist Architecture of Hong Kong. Alex has worked on heritage efforts including the campaign to preserve the State Theatre and has contributed to the Shenzhen–HK Bi-City Biennale. He also writes regularly for Friday Mingpao and curates Villa Moderne HK, a project supported by Design Trust.

 

 

Ms. Michelle HO

 

Michelle is an architectural designer who studied at CUHK and TU Delft in the Netherlands. She first developed her interest in Hong Kong’s architectural history while working at CUHK’s Centre for Architectural Heritage Research (CAHR), and has since continued exploring stories behind early Chinese architects and Hong Kong’s post-war buildings. She participated in the Venice Architecture Biennale’s “The Vertical City” exhibition in 2018 and curated the UABB exhibition “Gordon Brown and Post-war Modern in Hong Kong” in 2022.

 

 

Mr. Jefferson CHAN

 

Jefferson Chan is a Registered Architect in the UK, currently practising in London. Graduated from University of Cambridge and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Jefferson participated in UABB 2022 in Hong Kong. Growing up in a new town, Jefferson has a strong interest in the planning of post war new towns in a wider context. He obtained a travel sponsorship to study housing in Europe and satellite towns in Africa.
