About the CPD 活動簡述:

This CPD event introduces the newly released book, Revitalization in Asia: Adaptive Reuse in Macao, Mumbai, and Penang, which offers a clear understanding of the value of sustainable adaptive reuse within an Asian context. Three highly urbanized places (Macao, Mumbai, and Penang) are considered in detail from conservation and planning perspectives (with essays and timelines for each). For each place, five case studies offer a comparative framework for understanding similarities and differences in adaptive reuse projects. Six essays examine adaptive reuse in terms of its connection to the three dimensions of sustainability, with reference to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. This book is envisioned as a continuation of Asian Revitalization: Adaptive Reuse in Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Singapore.

Editors and contributing essayists will share perspectives about the conservation approaches that shaped adaptive reuse (revitalization) practice in each of the three urban centers. They will discuss the driving forces behind a range of revitalization initiatives, from community-led transformations to landmark urban renewals, showing how adaptive reuse can breathe new life into cities while strengthening resilience in the face of global challenges.

Event Content:

  1. Lynne and Lavina: Introduction to “revitalization and the SDGs” (a brief overview of the essays)
  2. Imon and Jennifer: Understanding adaptive reuse in Macao, tracing some pivotal milestones and citing some key examples
  3. Lavina and Lynne: Understanding adaptive reuse in Mumbai, tracing some pivotal   milestones and citing some key examples
  4. Laurence and Lin Lee: Understanding adaptive reuse in Penang, tracing some pivotal   milestones and citing some key examples
  5. Lavina and Lynne: Concluding notes
  6. Q&A
