About the CPD 活動簡述:
This lecture targets practitioners engaged in the restoration of Shiwan ceramics on roof ridges of traditional Chinese architecture. The objective is to enhance their awareness and understanding of the restoration process through several local case studies that elucidate the relevant issues
Historically, some practitioners encountered difficulties when addressing damaged roof ridges due to a lack of information regarding their original configuration and appearance. To prevent potential loss, they often resorted to haphazardly fixing the remnants. The speaker aims to reconstruct the likely original appearance of these roof ridges based on historical photographs, and it is expected that practitioners may undertake similar studies. Some earlier practitioners misjudged the traditional arrangements of the decorations, inadvertently establishing templates that subsequent practitioners adopted, thereby perpetuating the issues. The restoration of these roof ridges also relies on ceramic craftsmen to create appropriate substitutions that fill in the gaps. As supervisors, practitioners must possess a profound understanding of the traditional practices associated with Shiwan ceramics on roof ridges and engage in thorough research on restoration materials to accurately discern right from wrong, thereby safeguarding the historic buildings.
