India is one of the countries that has the greatest volume and diversity in heritage sites, whose conservation efforts have been increasingly acknowledged in the international arena in recent years. This talk discusses the current state and conservation efforts in India, especially in the context of the World Heritage City of Ahmedabad. Drawing on the practice experience of CREDO ARCHITECTS, an India-based architectural practice with specialisation in heritage conservation, this talk will cover case studies of projects ranging from documentation to heritage identification, mapping and listing, heritage policy drafting to community involvement. Through these diverse examples, this talk reflects on the challenges encountered in different types of heritage sites and encourages reflection on how future conservation practice shall step forward.
