About the CPD 活動簡述

The Hau clan, one of the Five Great Clans of the New Territories, originated in Long Valley thousands of years ago. Yin Kong, a Hau village, is first mentioned in the late eighteenth-century Gazetter of Xi’an County. Yin Kong, along with nearby Ho Sheung Heung and Kam Tsin, exemplifies typical Feng Shui farming villages of the indigenous Punti/Wai Tau (本地/圍頭人). At the heart is Long Valley, the most intact historical farmland landscape in Hong Kong, linked to the indigenous community. The conservation of Long Valley is a leading example of successful landscape preservation in Hong Kong. The establishment of the Long Valley Nature Park in 2024 highlights the growing importance of protecting cultural landscapes.

This Site Visit explores the deep connection between villagers and their landscape, along with government and civil society’s conservation efforts over recent decades. Guided by our knowledgeable members, Caspar Yam and Katie Chick, participants will embark on a Nature Park tour led by the AFCD and local villager Mr. Robert Hau, who will share insights into the villagers’ initiatives to preserve their cultural heritage.
