About the CPD

New York has over 34,000 buildings located in historic districts under legislation of the landmark law. How did the New York City Government govern these historic buildings and Historic District across the five boroughs? What is the history of Preservation in New York City? What are the special characteristics that make up the historic buildings in New York which led to the law and regulation of the current preservation practice. How do different parties get affected or involved with historic buildings in the present. This presentation will also touch upon examples of historic buildings combined with new design, converted and re-adapt for new usage, as well as a more traditional approach on restoration and repairs on the historic facades. This virtual presentation will end with a reflection on how the New York experience may shed light on the preservation practice and interest in Hong Kong and Asia.
