About the Site Visit
Luen Wo Market is one of the historic buildings included in the Batch V of the Revitalising Historical Buildings Through Partnership Scheme. It is a Grade 3 Historic Building that was completed in 1951, making it the first privately built market in the post-war Hong Kong. Designed as a modern architecture, Luen Wo Market featured a functional form with notable Art Deco features at the main entrance. It is recently revitalised into the House of Urban and Rural Living by the operator, “Lutheran Luen Wo Market—House Of Urban and Rural Living Limited”. The market began operation on 28 March by the Hong Kong Lutheran Social Service, LC-HKS.
This tour will mainly introduce the architectural design of Luen Wo Market, the major works done for the adaptive reuse and conservation of the building, as well as the challenges during the revitalisation of the building. The operator will also introduce their objectives and work carried out in Luen Wo Market.
