About the Event
The Hindu festival of Diwali (Festival of Lights) has been recognised as a significant intangible cultural heritage of Hong Kong as listed in Hong Kong’s ICH Inventory. Through the efforts of the Hindu Association of Hong Kong, this festival and it associated practices and rituals have been safeguarded and promoted for the Hindu community of Hong Kong. Celebrated at the Hindu Temple as well as many other religious and cultural centres across the city, this festival fosters the identity of Hong Kong as a multi-cultural and inclusive society.
In this talk, respected and long-standing members of the Hindu Association will share the mythology of Diwali. They will also talk about the various cultural practices associated with the celebrations of this festival, particularly highlighting the festivities carried out at the Hindu Temple in Hong Kong to present a deeper understanding of this intangible cultural heritage.
In keeping with the temple regulations, attendees will be requested to dress modestly and remove their footwear outside the main temple hall.
